Travel Guide: Caye Caulker, Belize
One of my favorite places that I have ever traveled to! Its a very small island that you can wear a bathing suit and no shoes for a week. Aka my favorite thing. Their slogan is GO SLOW and has the best Caribbean clear blue water and sunshine vibes! It is a bit on the expensive side but read below on how I did it on a budget!
WHERE TO STAY:
- Bellas Backpackers ( @bellasbackpackers )
(1 of the few hostels on the islands. I suggest you book in advance as they do fill up)
- I also stayed at Chapitos Apartment (on google) as this was the cheapest private rooms with a kitchen that I could find
WHERE TO EAT:
- Wish Willys for lobster/bbq
- The Happy Lobster
- Amigos Kitchen
- Fantasy Dining for lobster
- Banana bread from the guy on the orange bicycle
- Cheap place (window at the corner of Estrella - and Langosta, close to Reinas)
- Fruit guy on bike
- Caye Caulker Bakery
- Sea Choice Juice Bar
- Chef Juans Kitchen and Pastries
- Ice and Beans Cafe
WHAT TO DO:
- Check out the seahorse habitat at Iguana Reef Inn
- Feed the sting rays at Iguana Reef Inn (around sunset)
- Hang out at the Split (best spot on the island)
- Relax on an empty dock
- Yoga at Namaste Yoga (donation based)
- Dancing (Bars: Reggae Bar and/or Sports Bar)
- Snorkel tour (I went with Ez boy tours and negotiated the price down; this was one of the best snorkel tours I have ever been on, I saw manatees, sharks and so much more!)
- Sunset tour with Bella Backpackers / Good Vibes Belize Tours (so so so fun, good music) @goodvibesbelize
- Diving - go with Sea Sports Belize (I did not do this but met someone who works there and he said they have been in business for 20+ years)
- Take a flight over the Blue Hole (@sallysees went and it looked amazing!)
How I did Caye Caulker on a budget:
- I got a collab w/ Bella’s Backpackers. They also have volunteering options. Ask @paigeecopeland for more info on how her volunteering went!
- I ate where the locals ate! There’s also a very cheap bakery!
- I split meals! The portions there are huge.
- Key: bring groceries from Mexico (if you’re coming from there)… trust me on this one. It will blow your mind how much a bag of chips or literally anything is at the grocery store.
Here are some of my favorite travel resources:
